Magic meets mystery in Echoes of the Fey: The Fox's Trail, a detective story in a world of high fantasy. Play as Sofya Rykov, a private investigator with a secret of her own--she's the only Human who can wield magic--as she searches for the truth behind a missing Leshin soldier.

History

The Fox's Trail is the first episode in the Echoes of the Fey series. Following the release of their second commercial visual novel, Serafina's Crown, Woodsy Studio decided to create an episodic series that would mix two usually-separate genres, high fantasy and pulp detective mystery. This series would differ from traditional episodic games, in that each installment would be its own standalone mystery--more the style of Sherlock than The Walking Dead. This initial episode, created in GameMaker Studio, is approximately 5-7 hours long and introduces the magical-and-mercurial detective Sofya Rykov, as well as her stoic Leshin partner, Heremon ir-Caldy.

Ultimately, The Fox's Trail is about more than magic and a reckless heroine. It explores the dangers of demonizing groups of people based on their differences, and what happens when one person defies society by changing sides.

Woodsy Studio sprouted from the minds of two married screenwriters who moved out of Hollywood in 2008. Malcolm Pierce worked as a lawyer and Jenny Gibbons published novels before they decided to combine their powers and make video games. They continue to expand the limits of a "visual novel" by trying different engines for their games, from Ren'Py, to GameMaker, to Unreal Engine 4. As of 2017, both Malcolm and Jenny work full time at Woodsy Studio and hope to make it a life-long career.
